Prostate Surgery
Urinary incontinence, or leakage, is to be expected after prostatectomy as the continence mechanism in men is disrupted with this type of surgery. Pelvic floor muscle exercises can help to prevent or improve urinary incontinence following prostate surgery, and may even help men regain bladder control earlier. For best results these exercises should be taught by a Continence and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist prior to surgery but these can also be started after surgery.
